Strathmore Steers Perform Well in Mort and Co Feedlots

mortnco_092

The opportunity arose this year to gauge how our commercial cattle perform under feedlot conditions due to the lack of useful Summer rainfall to enable us  to finish steers on grass.

To date 758 Strathmore steers have been finished in Mort and Co.’s Grassdale and Pinegrove feedlots with the performance of the cattle being very pleasing.

The overall Average Daily Gain of the cattle was 2.13kg/day with the Dry Feed Conversion being 5.21kg/ 1kg of gain.

As a feed lotting business it is extremely satisfying to have the opportunity to feed Strathmore genetics in our feed yards as we have the confidence they will consistently perform above average every time we feed. Having good conformation, softness and sound structure, they comply to various markets both domestic and export and it is the ability to meet grid compliance within a few cents of the top grid price that sets these apart from the thousands of cattle we feed. Their exceptional temperament allows safe and enjoyable handling, which improves their ability to start on feed, gain weight and convert feed into beef. It is rewarding to be associated with Strathmore Santa’s and I can thoroughly recommend their genetics to help improve and value add your cattle business.
